Billingsville-Cotswold Elementary
Challenge
According to Billingsville-Cotswold Principal, Alicia Hash, a majority of the students from the Grier Heights neighborhood enter kindergarten at least two years behind their peers from the surrounding more affluent neighborhoods. Other statistics around Billingsville-Cotswold’s student population of approximately 400, all of whom reside in Grier Heights, are equally alarming. Over 97% are considered economically disadvantaged, approximately 100 qualify for McKinney Vento (homeless) status, and the student mobility rate often reaches 30% peryear. These conditions all contribute to an academic and social achievement gap that is almost impossible to overcome.
Response
Academic support, enrichment, and mentoring offered for all Grier Heights children ages preschool through grade 12.
